Book: Yoga as Embodied Resistance: A Feminist Lens on Caste, Gender, and Sacred Resilience in Yoga History

Shanti Om is excited to inaugurate and host a book circle beginning the fourth Thursday of each month starting April Our intention is to honor being life-long learners, delve into and share our thoughts on sacred texts and illuminating books. Our first book is timely: Yoga as Embodied Resistance.

Yoga as Embodied Resistance explores the ancient relationship between caste, patriarchy, and gender in yoga. Through stories, or kathas, author, yoga practioner and educator Anjali Rao offers students and readers new and radical ways to reinvest in a yoga grounded in liberation, inquiry, discernment and even dissent. Join us as we explore a book that may well “disrupt—in the best way—how we think about and practice yoga.” We will explore two chapters each session, over three sessions, with discussion and small doses of meditation, writing and practice.

Sign up by emailing Bhaktifoster108@gmail.com or in person at Shanti Om.

Course is by donation. Book may be purchased from our neighbor Two Rivers Bookstore.
